MINNEAPOLIS SHOULD HIRE A CHIEF OF POLICE FROM OUTSIDE THE DEPARTMENT.

THE KUHNS REPORT

LAS VEGAS - Hello America, and how is the world treating you?

Last weekend an unarmed 40-year-old Australian woman was shot dead by a  Minneapolis police officer. People from all over the country became angered over the incident. Mayor Betsy Hodges asked for police Chief  Janee Harteau's resignation. And the chief did resign.

Mayor Hodge's appointed  Medaria Arradondo, a 28 year veteran of the police force. I believe that was a bad, bad choice.

Hell, the guy started out as a school resource officer and patrolman with the police department. He worked his way up to assistant chief. 28 years with the department is one big reason Arradondo  SHOULD NOT be Police Chief. He has worked in that same embattled police department all that time  and apparently agreed to how the department was being  run. His is part and parcel of the dysfunctional culture of  the department. In all likelihood, in those 28 years he more than likely set some of the policy that allowed police officers to do the bad things they did.

Remember, this particular police department was  accused of  using excessive  force on numerous occasions in the past. My suggestion: The mayor should look outside  of the  department to change the culture that already exists in  the police department . A new face, new blood, someone that has not been  using the same old techniques and policy for these many years, as Arradondo has been  doing.

I also think mayor Hodge's decided to play the race card in selecting Arradondo, because he is African-American. I suspect mayor Hodge's  has the idea that by putting  an African-American in as Chief of Police, that act, would result in  better relations between the police and the city of Minneapolis black community. I have my doubts about that.

From many reports coming out of the news media , there have been many protesters  calling on mayor Hodge's to resign also. I think that would be a step in the right direction, don't you? Clean house. Start over with a clean slate.

And, that's my opinion. Make your own decisions. You decide.
