AMERICA'S "LEGAL" IMMIGRATION SYSTEMS, NEEDS TO BE MERIT BASED.
THE KUHNS REPORT
LAS VEGAS - Hello America, and how is the world treating you?
President Trump wants to cut legal immigration in half within a few years. In his overhaul plan for "legal immigration" he also proposed that in order for immigrants to legally come to the United States, they would have to meet certain criteria. Some of the requirements would be:
The immigrant:
* would have to speak English. Note: That would allow the immigrant to assimilate into society faster.
* would have to have money to support themselves after arrival.Note: This would prevent the immigrant arriving on our soil and immediately applying for welfare handouts.
* would have to have a job skill. Note: So the immigrant would be a productive part of America, by getting a job and contributing to the American economy.
* extended families members would be prohibited entry along with the immigrant applicant. Note: The family members that could enter with the immigrant would be basically his or her spouse, and children. Note: That policy would prevent the immigrant from bringing his or her nephews, cousins, , aunt and uncles, etc.,
I agree with all of the above. A person should be able to speak English if the want to come to America. And, the immigrant should have money to support themselves, buy businesses, or invest in America, rather than collect welfare, paid for by the American taxpayer.
And, yes, when the immigrant applies to come to America, it is only prudent that the immigrants "immediate" family be allowed to accompany him or her. It's obvious that the immigrant applicant is not going to support all of his/her nephews, nieces, aunts and uncles, cousins and grandparents on one income.
Our current legal immigration system is broken, it's obsolete . Why? Currently the immigrant arrives on our soil, and immediately, he/she is put on our welfare and benefit rolls. We're supporting them from the get-go. A large majority of the legal immigrants DO NOT speak English. This prevents them from seeking out a job and getting around in the city they settle in. A majority of the legal immigrants do not have any skills to take jobs in various occupations and/or vocational positions. And, when the immigrant arrives in America, they not only have their spouses and children in tow, but they want to bring in nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles, aunts, grand parents, and distant relatives. I believe that's inappropriate. Right now, when that occurs, we are immediately supporting, 6,7,8,9,10 or more people, because of the one single immigrant application. Our current "legal" immigration policy is SO WRONG, in SO MANY WAYS.
I say we need to have immigrants come to America, who can demonstrate job skills, English language skills, and education, We need immigrants who can begin contributing to our country from the day they arrive so they can support themselves and their immediate family.
President Trump's new, revised "legal" immigration is consistent with other countries immigration. Canada, and Australia, have a "merit based system" and it has been working very well for them. Those countries have their immigrants prove they have money to support themselves and their family; have job skills to offer; and contribute to their countries well-being.
The sad part of our "legal" immigration system is: We have been allowing people with no skills, no education, and no money into our country for decades.. Many people from some of these countries do not even have an elementary school education, some have never, ever, been to school at all. They arrive here with no money in their pockets, and they bring all of their family, and extended and distant relatives with them. The result: We have been getting a large numbers of legal immigrants in the country that want us, the taxpayer, to support them with welfare and benefit programs.
I predict that once the United States changes to a legal immigration "merit" system, we will be getting high school and college educated people; people that have skills in such things as technology, computer sciences, physics; immigrants that can speak English; immigrants that have worked in jobs and positions in their country of origin; immigrants that want to come to America and buy and start businesses with their own money; investors that want to invest in America's way of life, and build on our economy.
We clearly need to change the "legal" immigration policy. It hasn't been touched since the 1960's. Congress has to revamp our old, tired, outdated, immigration policy, if for no other reason, but for America to survive.
Our current system says to become a naturalized United States citizen, you must pass a naturalization test. The person has to take an English and civics test unless the person qualifies for a waiver or exemption. But under this current policy, a non-citizen doesn't have to take an English test if they are 50 years old, or older and has lived in the U.S. ,as a permanent resident for at least 20 years. What? I say, that's bad policy. WHY? Come on! If a person has been living in the United States for 20 years or more, and still cannot speak English ---that's a BIG, BIG, problem for America. That tells me the person doesn't want to integrate or assimilate into American society.
I recall, back in the 1990''s, Rep Barbara Jordan, D-Texas, who was the chair of the U.S.Commission of Immigration, called for an increase in the restrictions on immigration but --the big corporations and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (who want "cheap" labor"), and the very liberal left, (who wanted a whole new voting bloc for the Democratic party), put the kibosh on the move.
Congress has to pass the Cotton-Purdue measure. From all indications, it appears president Trump will sign the measure. One large benefit the American people will receive from the Cotton-Purdue measure will be the termination of the crazy Green Card Lottery which the U.S. had in place for years. My view is, the only reason for this idiotic Green Card Lottery, is because the liberals and big corporations want 50,000 immigrants a year to come to the U.S., from countries that do not generally send many immigrants to the Unites States.
If congress( with its ten-percent (10%) approval rating) can get their act together, and start wearing their "big boy" pants, they will act in unison and pass this measure which will be a big substantial move to make America great again. We, as Americans, have to retain the American way of life and retain America's character. And I say the only way to do that is to control our borders.
Folks, that is the kind of immigrants we need. -- And, that's my opinion. Make your own decisions. You decide.
